Early in the salmon angling season in Newfoundland and Labrador, Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officers have already laid a number of charges related to illegal poaching.
On the night of Thursday, June 16, officers with the Gander detachment were conducting a boat patrol in the Norris Arm north area when they observed an illegal salmon net that had been set. The officers conducted surveillance of the area and later arrested one male adult who attempted to retrieve the net. As a result of the arrest a salmon net and one Atlantic salmon were seized. Charges are pending.
