ASF President Bill Taylor has announced that Dr. Fred Whoriskey, Vice President of Research and Environment, has decided to begin the next phase of his career. Fred has accepted a position with Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and will be leaving full-time ASF employment at the end of 2010. Fred will play a major role in the building of a new Marine Institute and serve as Executive Director of the Ocean Tracking Network. This is a tremendous opportunity for him, and has the potential to raise the profile of ASF's research and further contribute to wild Atlantic salmon conservation. Fred began working with ASF on a full-time basis in January 1996. He has been an extremely valuable and resourceful member of ASF's senior staff and a friend to us all. He helped build our Research and Environment Department into world class stature. He led ASF interventions into a number of high profile environmental issues, and provided expert advice in many consultative fora, including government. He is widely recognized as one of the world's leading research scientists in the field of Atlantic salmon ASF has been very fortunate to have had Fred lead our research activities over the past fifteen years. He will continue to direct our research efforts, including our smolt tracking work, until the end of 2010. ASF wishes Fred and his family all the best as he embarks on this exciting new path in his distinguished career. |
