Infectious Salmon Anemia Strikes Newfoundland

Infectious Salmon Anemia Strikes Newfoundland

There has been a second outbreak of Infectious Salmon Anaemia in the province, one which the provincial government reported some time ago.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency only recently confirmed it, but the provincial government reported it in October.

There are pathenogenic and non-pathenogenic strains of ISA. Non-pathenogenic strains are not known to produce signs of disease, but this one is of the pathenogenic strain.

The company involved was Cooke Aquaculture in Gaultois.
