THE BOTTOM LINE!
The Atlantic Salmon Federation calls upon all salmon anglers to practice live release angling and offers REWARDS for safely returning salmon and grilse to the water.

Carefully released wild Atlantic salmon live and go on to spawn, increasing prospects for future generations. REMEMBER! - It is most important to keep the Atlantic salmon in the water.

ATLANTIC SALMON ANGLERS -
Your Views on Catch and Release are Important!

There was great interest in the Atlantic Salmon Federation's live release survey, with 802 responses!

ASF appreciates the consideration given by so many Atlantic salmon anglers to answering this questionnaire. Many individuals gave a great deal of thought to their answers and that makes the survey response especially valuable.

We also wish to congratulate Richard Allen of Amherst, NS, who was the winner of the live release survey draw. He won a framed limited-edition copy of the painting, "Restigouche Evening," by Bruno Bobak.

The survey results have been tabulated, and an article based on the responses has just appeared in the Summer 2010 issue of the Atlantic Salmon Journal. The article is available below in .pdf format.

  • Views expressed by anglers on release of grilse - pdf
  • Comments of respondents on topics covered in the survey - pdf

GREAT DRAW FOR ANGLERS IN NB and QC! Buy a live release salmon license in New Brunswick or Quebec, and there are rewards beyond the thrill of release! Anglers fishing in N.B. qualify for two draws: one by the N.B. Salmon Council and the other by ASF by returning the stub from their live release licenses. Anglers who buy the Quebec live release license can fill in the attached form and submit to be included in the ASF draw. All names will be entered on our list of releasers.

SPECIAL REASONS TO RELEASE GRILSE In the 21st century it is important for anglers to release grilse as well as large salmon.
