December 4th, 2006

For immediate release

St. Andrews
- The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) has appointed Patricia (Trish) Edwards of Sackville, NB to the position of Regional Director for New Brunswick, replacing Danny Bird, who has retired.

Todd Dupuis, ASF's Director of Regional Programs, said, "We welcome Trish's unique combination of education, work experience, and enthusiasm that make her a valuable asset in conserving our precious wild Atlantic salmon populations."

Patricia has a BSc in Biology from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and an MSc in Stream Ecology from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. Previously she held the positions of Lake Ontario fisheries management biologist, avian policy advisor; and wildlife policy and regulations specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. Trish also worked as an aquatic biologist with Jacques Whitford Environment Limited in Fredericton.

"I'm excited to be back in New Brunswick," stated Trish, "and to have the opportunity to work with ASF, the New Brunswick Salmon Council and the people of New Brunswick in the continuing efforts to conserve, restore and protect the vitally important wild Atlantic salmon."

In her new position, Patricia coordinates policy development, long-term planning, advocacy and public awareness campaigns among ASF, the New Brunswick

Salmon Council (NBSC), and the council's 20 affiliated organizations. She will ensure that the network's conservation programs for wild Atlantic salmon are carried out efficiently and effectively.

Ms. Edwards will maintain a rapport with federal and provincial governments and other organizations that share ASF's concern for the health of wild Atlantic salmon and their environment.

She will provide technical advice and guidance to ASF's affiliated watershed management groups in the province, to assist them with their watershed restoration and stewardship initiatives.

For Fish Friends, ASF's educational program designed for elementary school children, she will assist in establishing partnerships among affiliates, community groups, and the private sector to provide support to the 100 New Brunswick classrooms that now participate in this innovative, hands-on education program.

Patricia's office is located in Sackville and she can be reached at:
