A large female wild Atlantic salmon can produce thousands of eggs, and the eggs can be 25% of the salmon's weight! The female Atlantic salmon makes nests called redds, using her body and tail motion - and in some cases can create 5 or 6 of these. The male fertilizes the eggs as they are laid by the female. |
