The Department of Fisheries and Oceans that retention salmon angling will be halted on all scheduled and non-scheduled salmon rivers on the island of Newfoundland.
The Atlantic Salmon Federation had been calling for an immediate ban on retention angling in Newfoundland due to a drop in the number of fish returning to inland waters.
DFO says all rivers will be open to catch-and-release angling only effective one hour after sunset on Sunday, August 6th due to significant declines in salmon returns.
