Bill Taylor, President & CEO btaylor@asf.ca(506) 529-1034 Bill Taylor joined ASF in 1988 and was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in 1995. He serves on several regional, national, and international conservation boards and committees, including Canada's Atlantic Salmon Advisory Committee, Canadian Coalition on Acid Rain, as a Special Advisor to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, and a member of Canada's delegation to the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO). He is a member of several professional organizations and societies, including the America Fisheries Society, Canadian Society of Association Executives, and the Canadian Association of Environmental Law and Policy. Mr. Taylor received his Bachelor's degree from Acadia Universtiy in 1983 and undertook postgraduate studies in the natural sciences at Acadia and St. Francis Xavier University. Elizabeth Ames, Executive Assistant bames@asf.ca(506) 529-1380 Elizabeth M. Ames, joined the staff of ASF in 1991 as a secretary to the Regional Programs, Communications and Public Policy department. In 1995 she was appointed Executive Assistant to the President and CEO. She is a graduate of Atlantic Business College, 1978. She and her husband David reside in St. Stephen and have 3 children, John, Jill and Rachel. Sue Ann Scott, Vice-President, Communications sscott@asf.ca(506) 529-1027 Sue Ann Scott joined the staff in 1981 as a summer employee. Her early jobs in membership and research provided background and preparation for her appointment to the newly-created position of Communications Coordinator in 1992, when ASF's Boards decided that the organization must raise the profile of wild Atlantic salmon issues and our conservation programs. Since then, Sue's role has grown to include responsibility for all media and education programs, and publications. Sue serves on Canada's Atlantic Salmon Advisory Committee and on the Canadian delegation to the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO). Chatelaine added her to the magazine's list of notable Canadian women for her public awareness and education pursuits in the magazine's millenium edition listing. The Communications Department received three awards of excellence in 2006. The media campaign on fighting acid rain on West River, Sheet Harbour received a bronze award for excellence in media relations and publicity from Bulldog Reporter. MarCom Creative Awards recognized ASF's 2006 annual report with a gold award and the Autumn 2006 Atlantic Salmon Journal received a platinum award for excellence. Sue received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Brunswick, with a major in English. She and her husband Bob have three sons, Benjamin, Nathaniel and Shane, and Waffle, their big, friendly orange cat.>> hide profile

Muriel Ferguson, Manager, Public Information mferguson@asf.ca(506) 529-1033 Muriel is another employee who started at ASF in a temporary position (in 1994) and has been here ever since. Prior to ASF, Muriel spent several years at home raising her children, doing volunteer work, and renovating and restoring an 1850s home. During this time, she worked on a part-time basis, conducting local tours and developing special events for tour and convention groups visiting the St. Andrews area. Before children, she worked in public relations and in tourism. Now that their sons are on their own, Muriel and her husband, John, have taken on two canine children, Sable and Miranda. >> hide profile

Tom Moffatt, Education and Communications Specialist asfweb@nbnet.nb.ca (506) 529-1022 Tom Moffatt joined ASF in 1998, with a background in environmental education and public relations stretching back to 1974. Through the years he has worked as an interpretive naturalist for the Canadian Wildlife Service, managed an art-and-nature centre, edited the St. Croix Courier, a long-established bi-weekly newspaper for southwest New Brunswick, and undertaken issues research, media development and web work for the St. Croix International Waterway Commission and the St. Croix Estuary Project. He has been photographing landscapes and nature subjects for nearly 50 years, with his images exhibited in the National Exhibition Centre and the Beaverbrook Gallery. His explorations have taken him on eight trips (totaling 24 months) in the mountains of central Asia, as well as to many regions in Europe and across North America. He holds a B.Sc. from the U. of Guelph; a B.Ed. from UNB, and a M.S.Ed. in environmental education from Northern Illinois University. He lives with his wife Anne and daughter Annapurna in a 200-year-old family home on St. David Ridge with their seven rescued cats. Tiffini Cleghorn, Communications Assistant tcleghorn@asf.ca(506) 529-1056 Tiffini joined ASF in 2001. After high school, Tiffini spent a year at St. Thomas University and then obtained an Administrative Assistant Certificate from the New Brunswick Community College.
Tiffini tries to keep tabs on all of us - no easy job - and she will most likely be the one who answers your phone calls or greets you at our offices. As assistant to the V.P. of Communications, she is engaged in providing technical support, preparing reports, and conducting research on a variety of topics. Tiffini is native to the St. Andrews area and enjoys spending time with her parents, two younger sisters, and her cats, Max and Spencer. >> hide profile

Martin Silverstone, Editor Atlantic Salmon Journal martinsilverstone@videotron.ca(514) 457-8737 Martin Silverstone's involvement with ASF goes way back, all the way to 1980 when he worked as a field assistant on a study of North Shore rivers that was sponsored by ASF. Later Martin left biology, went into editing, and was hired as an assistant editor of the Atlantic Salmon Journal. He worked in the Montreal office from 1989 to 1991 and helped move the publications office to St. Andrews, where he worked until 1993. Since then Martin has edited a variety of magazines, including Canadian Wildlife and Equinox. He returned to take the helm of the Atlantic Salmon Journal in 2001. Martin is an avid cross country and telemark skier in winter and also enjoys squash, tennis, and a little rugby in the snow-free months. >> hide profile

Irene Pohle, Advertising Manager, Editorial Assitant - Atlantic Salmon Journal asfads@nbnet.nb.ca(506) 529-1382 Irene has been with the ASF family since 2000. She has a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Ryerson University and spent several years as a media planner, buyer, supervisor and director for Toronto and Miami advertising agencies. In addition to selling advertising space in the "Atlantic Salmon Journal", Irene assists with its layout and content, edits magazine proofs, researches and writes articles, coordinates with freelance designers, writers and photographers, as well as with printers, and mail and newsstand distribution houses. Irene includes among her special interests flyfishing, travel, cooking, reading, and looking after her two Weimeraners. She is married to a marine scientist and they have a teenage son, who has a passion for salmon angling and fly tying. >> hide profile

Jill Alcott Baskin, Director, Development (U.S.) jill@alcottpartners.com(212) 692-5997 Jill plans and manages ASF’s Annual New York Dinner & Auction, as well as other miscellaneous U.S. cultivation events, works with US Board relations, and assists the VP of Development with annual giving and other development tasks, as needed. Jill spearheaded the New York development effort that has more than tripled annual revenue during her tenure with ASF. She managed ASF’s 50th Anniversary Annual New York Dinner & Auction at the Museum of Natural History during her first year with ASF in 1998. The dinner is now held at Cipriani 42nd street. In addition to her work, Jill is interested in food and wine, Broadway, dance, travel and spending time with her husband, family and friends. A graduate of Barnard College (BC), Columbia University, she is a Barnard College Student Mentor and was Chairman of the College Reunion from 1995-98, advising on all aspects of this annual, three-day event. Jill Alcott Baskin owns and operates Alcott & Partners, Inc., a ten-year-old fundraising consulting, marketing and events firm. Kirsten Rouse, Development Officer krouse@asf.ca(506) 529-1037 Kirsten became ASF's Development Officer in 2000. After receiving her BA, she spent 14 interesting years with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, where she was one of the first Hotel Champions of the Fairmont Environmental Program. Raising funds for ASF's programs and assisting in membership development keep Kirsten busy. She helps plan and manage Special Events, including ASF's annual dinners that are held in the Maritime provinces, Quebec, Ontario, Maine, Boston, Chicago, and New York. >> hide profile

Carolyn Leavitt, Development Assistant, Annual Fund membership@asf.ca(506) 529-1025 Carolyn began working at ASF on a part-time basis in 1991. Before long she became a permanent, full-time employee. Carolyn is kept extremely busy with her membership responsibilities, which include helping to attract new members, developing and maintaining membership lists, handling requests for address changes, renewals, tax receipts, and more. She also helps with fundraising programs. Marlene Chase, Development Assistant, Special Events mchase@asf.ca(506) 529-1387 Marlene started with ASF in 1991 after graduating from the NB Community College in St. Andrews. As a member of the Membership and Development team, Marlene assists with planning and managing ASF's Special Events, such as fundraising dinners, auctions and the annual raffle. She also works on various aspects of membership development. Marlene enjoys golfing, traveling south (unless it's following the Rolling Stones), kayaking, and gardening. She and her husband, Kenny, also manage four apartment units and are kept busy with their children's sports and other activities. Joan Tubbs, Development Clerk (part time) jtubbs@asf.ca(506) 529-1060 Joan has been with ASF since 1992. In addition to a nurses’ aide diploma, she also has one in business, as well as several courses in other interesting areas.
Much of Joan’s time is spent processing membership receipt packages, coordinating bulk mailings, and preparing and distributing Anglers Cache orders. She also keeps track of, orders, and distributes the federation’ s office supplies at headquarters, and performs a host of other duties. If you need to get organized or get an unusual task accomplished quickly and efficiently, Joan is the person to ask.
In her free time, Joan enjoys creating silk flower arrangements and working on other arts and crafts. Flower gardening, reading, bird-watching, and motorcycle touring with her husband of 32 years, Jim Tubbs, are also high on her favourite activities list.
Joan loves animals, big and small, and is always willing to share stories about pets and wild animals, birds, and fish, as well as to help the lost, lonely, hurt, or hungry when they arrive on her doorstep.>> hide profile

Prior to joining the staff of ASF, he was the Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of St. Andrews. He currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the St. Andrews Rural Cemetery and over the years has served a number of organizations in various capacities mostly of a financial nature. Mr. Mallory attended the University of New Brunswick and is a member of the Certified General Accountants Association of New Brunswick. He and his wife, Lori, have two sons, Ross and Scott, and reside in St. Andrews.>> hide profile

Anita Cline, Financial Assistant acline@asf.ca(506) 529-1029 Anita studied nursing at the University of New Brunswick before deciding she preferred working with numbers. After taking a business course, she began working at ASF in March of 1991 as an assistant to Dr. John Anderson, ASF’s then VP of Research. That was followed by a transfer to the finance department, where she has been for the better part of 16 years now. Anita is currently completing her BBA on a part-time basis at the Saint John campus of the University of New Brunswick. Mary Wobma, Administrative Assistant mwobma@asf.ca(506) 529-1038 Mary first arrived at ASF with her "we can do that" attitude in 1992 and has remained a positive force ever since, which is great, especially when dealing with issues related to human resources. Prior to joining the ASF team, Mary managed one of St. Andrews most successful shops. Mary graduated from Blacks Harbour High School in 1971 and from the New Brunswick Community College in 1992 with an Administrative Assistant certificate. A strong supporter of her community, Mary, over the years, has served as a Town Councilor and Deputy Mayor of St. Andrews. She has also been a driving force in ensuring that the town's Canada Day festivities are memorable, by raising the funds needed for the fireworks show. Mary is currently serving as Vice-Chair of the Fundy Community Foundation and doing the accounting for the Churches of St. Andrew and St. Clements. When she can find the time, Mary enjoys tennis, volley ball, kayaking, playing the fiddle, gardening, and spending time with her husband, Keith, and their two children and four grandcchildren. >> hide profile

Andrew Goode, Vice President, U.S. Programs goodeasf@blazenetme.net207-725-2546 Andrew Goode began working for the Atlantic Salmon Federation in 1999 and in 2002, became Vice President of US Programs. Much of Andrew's work is focused in Maine where native salmon ppulations still cling to rivers like the Penobscot, Kennebec, Machias, Denny's and Naraguagus. He led ASF's fight on the Endangered Speiceis listing of eight salmon rivers and has helped shape aquaculture reforms in the State of Maine. Currently, his principle focus is restoring Maine's Penobscot River, where an innovative agreement may represent the last, best chance to save wild Atlantic salmon in the US. Prior to ASF, Andy was the Conservation Director for the Orvis Company and earlier worked for the Nature Consevancey in North Carolina and the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Andrew holds a Master's degree in ecology from Duke University's School of Forestry and Environmantal Studies and a BA from Colby College.

John Burrows, Maine Council Coordinator asfjb@blazenetme.net(207) 725-2833 John joined ASF in 2000. John works closely with ASF's Maine Council and travels extensively around the state doing grassroots outreach, communications, and advocacy. John has strongly advocated for the continued restoration of the Kennebec River, testifying before the State Legislature on various bills, and coordinated the effort to create a Riverfront Community Development Program for Maine. John graduated from Gettysburg College, where he majored in Political Science and Environmental Studies and minored in History. He then attended Yale University's School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and earned a Master of Environmental Studies degree in 1998. Prior to joining ASF, John worked as a consultant to various public and private entities, including the National Park Service, the Department of Energy, and the World Wildlife Fund. In his free time, John enjoys hiking, paddling, camping, traveling, and fly fishing. John is a native Mainer, having grown-up in the coastal community of Kennebunkport, and now lives in the neighboring community of Kennebunk with his wife, Christy, and dog, Duncan. >> hide profile

Charles Cusson, Director Quebec Programs fsamtl@magma.ca514-926-1412 Charles joined the staff of ASF in January of 2000. Prior to joining ASF, Charles lived in Aylmer, Quebec, across the river from Ottawa.
An avid conservationist and fly fisherman, Charles was introduced to wild Atlantic salmon in 1990 on the Moisie River, which was a life-changing experience and is in large part the reason why he is dedicated to the conservation of our salmon.
His involvement with ASF began in 1997. Along with a dedicated group of volunteers from Quebec and Ontario, he was directly involved with the creation of the “Fall Run Dinner” that is held annually in the Ottawa area. Charles is a member of the board of directors of ASF’s Regional Council in Quebec, FQSA (Fédération Québécoise pour le saumon atlantique) and works very closely with the council to promote conservation initiatives. Todd Dupuis, Director of Regional Programs & Regional Director for Prince Edward Island tdupuis@upei.ca(902) 628-4349 Todd Dupuis is a graduate of the University of Prince Edward Isalnd (UPEI) and has worked in the river restoration field for 20 years. He is a technical advisor for community-based stream restoration projects across Prince Edward Island. Todd is also a technical advisor to the PEI Provincial Government on fish passage issues. He is a member of the UPEI Watershed Research Group and is involved in a number of research projects pertaining to land use and its impacts on surface water systems. He was a member of the PEI Round Table on Resource Land Use and Stewardship Commission which developed a resource land strategy for the province. Todd is presently the chairperson of the Prince Edward Island Recreation Fisheries Advisory Committee which advises the PEI government on issues as they pertain to recreational fisheries on PEI. Todd is a Sessional Lecturer for UPEI for fourth year biology courses. Todd is a native of New Brunswick and has lived on PEI since 1984. >> hide profile

Lewis Hinks, Nova Scotia Regional Director lhinks@auracom.com(902) 275-3407 Lewis has been with ASF since 1992. He began work as ASF's Partners in Conservation Coordinator under the Education and Public Awareness Program (EPAP), developing conservation programs between Native and non-Native groups throughout Atlantic Canada. When the EPAP program ended, Lewis became ASF's Regional Director for Nova Scotia. A graduate of Dalhousie University, Lewis has been working to conserve fish populations for more than 20 years. He ran the Nova Scotia Adopt-a-Stream program for the first two years the program existed and helped prepare the first Adopt-a-Stream manual. He was the project biologist for the Cumberland County River Enhancement Association, working on river restoration and enhancement projects in Cumberland and Colchester Counties, prior to joining ASF. As ASF's Regional Director, he was directly involved in initiating the West River liming project to counter the impacts of acid rain on this river, a first of its kind in North America. Lewis is also a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor. When not working on salmon conservation activities, Lewis includes fishing, camping, golf, sea kayaking and cycling among his favourite activities. Lewis lives in Chester with his wife, Valerie, son, Ian, and two golden retreivers, Bhreagh and Molly.

Don Ivany, Newfoundland & Labrador Regional Director donivany@swgc.mun.ca(709) 632-5100 Don was born in 1960 in the community of Meadows, located in the Bay of Islands, near the city of Corner Brook, NL. After graduating from Templeton Collegiate High School in the adjacent community of Gillams, Don attended Memorial University of Newfoundland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in biology in 1985. In 1992, Don accepted the position of Regional Coordinator with ASF for Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1993, he was promoted to Regional Director for this region. Don has received several awards for his dedication and commitment to protecting salmon and trout stocks in Newfoundland and Labrador, including the Guenther Behr Award, presented by the Salmonid Associtaion of Eastern Newfoundland (SAEN) and the SPAWN Hall of Fame Award from the Salmonid Preservation Association for the Waters of Newfoundland and Labrador (SPAWN). Don currrently resides in the community of Irishtown, also in the Bay of Islands, with his wife Maureen and their two daughters, Nicole and Erin. >> hide profile

Geoff Giffin, New Brunswick Regional Director ggiffin@asf.ca506-650-8371 Geoff Giffin has for many years been involved with outreach, fundraising and river-based activities in New Brunswick, principally with the Hammond River Angling Association (HRAA). He is also a passionate fly-fisherman and salmon person – including building rods and tying flies. Dr. Fred G. Whoriskey Jr., V.P. Research & Environment asfres@nb.aibn.com(506) 529-1039 Fred was born and raised in Massachusetts. He graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1976 and went to work for Woods Hole Oceanography Institution (WHOI) in Woods Hole, MA. After spending one year on an aquaculture project, he became Manager of WHOI's Matamek Research Station in Sept Iles, Quebec. Fred then undertookPh.D. studies at l'Université Laval in Quebec City and graduated in 1984. He followed this with a NATO postdoctoral fellowship at the University College of Wales in Aberystwyth, UK. In January, 1986, he was hired as an Assistant Professor at McGill University and promoted to Associate Professor in 1992. He joined ASF full-time in 1995 as its Natural Resource Scientist, and became V.P. Research and Environment in 1996. Fred's research interests are in fish biology and ecology, and the impacts of exotic species on native ecosystems. He is author or co-author of more than 60 papers in refereed journals, as well as many technical reports and editor of two books. He has also been heavily involved in public policy issues, especially in regard to environmental impact assessments and has worked extensively in public education. Fred served on the Board of AquaNet (Canada's National Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture) and Chairs the Board of the Huntsman Marine Science Cenrte. He is a frequent public speaker. Jonathan Carr, Biologist jcarr@asf.ca(506) 529-1385 Jonathan has been with ASF since 1996 and is now the senior biologist in ASF's Research and Environment Department. Prior to joining ASF, he acquired his Masters of Science Degree at the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton campus) on a project entitled The Interactions Between Wild and Aquaculture Atlantic Salmon. Much of Jonathan's research continues to involve interactions between wild and aquaculture salmon. particularly on the Magaguadavic River, located in southwestern New Brunswick. Some of his other projects include fish passage issues, exotic species, sonic telemetry, fish stock assessment and restoration programs. Jonathan is also responsible for responding to environmental interventions as they arise (i.e. assisting other organizations in the field), public speaking (i.e. presentations at conferences/grass root meetings), proposal submission for grants, and training and supervision of field technicians and students. >> hide profile

Stephen Tinker, Biologist stevetinker@asf.ca(506) 529-1062 Stephen Tinker came to ASF in 1998 with a diploma in Fine Arts from the Vanier CEGEP in Quebec, as well as a BSc and an MSc from McGill Universtiy in Montreal, Quebec. Steve conducts field research on Atlantic salmon in New Brunswick and Quebec, particularly sonic tracking on presmolt, precocious parr and smolt. An occasional watercolour artist, scientific illustrator, children's illustrator, and cartoonist, Steve also enjoys wood carving and furniture making. He has also been a frequent contributor of cartoons to the Kid’s Page of the Atlantic Salmon Journal.

Ellen Merrill, Executive Assistant emerrill@asf.ca(506) 529-1021 Ellen keeps the Research and Enviornment Department running smoothly, which is a big challenge, especially during the field season when the other team members are working in remote areas that are difficult to reach.
She is responsible for processing the applications and making necessary arrangements for the Olin Fellowship and Crabtree Internship. Ellen also helps with field work when required. Ellen started with ASF in 1984 and prior to her appointment to the reseearch department, she was the Executive Assistant in the President's Office. Mike Best, Research Assistant mwbjbest@nb.sympatico.ca506-529-1058 Knowledgeable about all the rivers in southwest New Brunswick, Mike Best grew up fishing and canoeing the rivers in the region. In years past, he worked as a professional guide on the St. Croix, Miramichi, and other river systems. Mike Best monitors rivers and fishways, does stock assessments, and overlooks the general well-being of the rivers in the region. He started with ASF in 1998, but assisted with fisheries projects for many years before. When not working, Mike likes to pursue outdoor activities, especially fishing and hunting. For 40 years he has practiced the art of fly-tying, and is very knowledgeable about all aspects of Atlantic salmon angling. John Anderson, Scientific Advisor janderson@asf.ca506-529-1023 John Anderson, now retired, has led a distinguished career. In addition to being a former Vice-President of Operations for the Atlantic Salmon Federation, he has been director of the Federal Marine Biological Station in St. Andrews, NB, Director General for Research of the Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans, and President of the University of New Brunswick at various times during his working life. He is founder and former chairman of the Huntsman Marine Science Centre. He maintains a strong interest in many Atlantic salmon issues, including relationships with First Nations education efforts. John lives in St. Andrews.
