Elizabeth M. Ames, joined the staff of ASF in 1991 as a secretary to the Regional Programs, Communications and Public Policy department. In 1995 she was appointed Executive Assistant to the President and CEO.

She is a graduate of Atlantic Business College, 1978.

She and her husband David reside in St. Stephen and have 3 children, John, Jill and Rachel. They all enjoy sailing, skiing at Sugarloaf USA and spending time with their Labrador, Barkley.

Muriel is another employee who started at ASF in a temporary position (in 1994) and has been here ever since.

Prior to ASF, Muriel spent several years at home raising her children, doing volunteer work, and renovating and restoring an 1850s home. During this time, she worked on a part-time basis, conducting local tours and developing special events for tour and convention groups visiting the St. Andrews area. Before children, she worked in public relations and in tourism.

Now that their sons are on their own, Muriel and her husband, John, have taken on two canine children, Sable and Miranda.

Tom Moffatt joined ASF in 1998, with a background in environmental education and public relations stretching back to 1974. Through the years he has worked as an interpretive naturalist for the Canadian Wildlife Service, managed an art-and-nature centre, edited the St. Croix Courier, a long-established bi-weekly newspaper for southwest New Brunswick, and undertaken issues research, media development and web work for the St. Croix International Waterway Commission and the St. Croix Estuary Project. He has been photographing landscapes and nature subjects for nearly 50 years, with his images exhibited in the National Exhibition Centre and the Beaverbrook Gallery. His explorations have taken him on eight trips (totaling 24 months) in the mountains of central Asia, as well as to many regions in Europe and across North America. He holds a B.Sc. from the U. of Guelph; a B.Ed. from UNB, and a M.S.Ed. in environmental education from Northern Illinois University. He lives with his wife Anne and daughter Annapurna in a 200-year-old family home on St. David Ridge with their seven rescued cats.

Tiffini joined ASF in 2001.

After high school, Tiffini spent a year at St. Thomas University and then obtained an Administrative Assistant Certificate from the New Brunswick Community College.

Tiffini tries to keep tabs on all of us - no easy job - and she will most likely be the one who answers your phone calls or greets you at our offices. As assistant to the V.P. of Communications, she is engaged in providing technical support, preparing reports, and conducting research on a variety of topics.

Tiffini is native to the St. Andrews area and enjoys spending time with her parents, two younger sisters, and her cats, Max and Spencer.

Martin Silverstone's involvement with ASF goes way back, all the way to 1980 when he worked as a field assistant on a study of North Shore rivers that was sponsored by ASF.

Later Martin left biology, went into editing, and was hired as an assistant editor of the Atlantic Salmon Journal. He worked in the Montreal office from 1989 to 1991 and helped move the publications office to St. Andrews, where he worked until 1993.

Since then Martin has edited a variety of magazines, including Canadian Wildlife and Equinox. He returned to take the helm of the Atlantic Salmon Journal in 2001.

Martin is an avid cross country and telemark skier in winter and also enjoys squash, tennis, and a little rugby in the snow-free months.

Irene has been with the ASF family since 2000. She has a Bachelor of Applied Arts from Ryerson University and spent several years as a media planner, buyer, supervisor and director for Toronto and Miami advertising agencies.

In addition to selling advertising space in the "Atlantic Salmon Journal", Irene assists with its layout and content, edits magazine proofs, researches and writes articles, coordinates with freelance designers, writers and photographers, as well as with printers, and mail and newsstand distribution houses.

Irene includes among her special interests flyfishing, travel, cooking, reading, and looking after her two Weimeraners.

She is married to a marine scientist and they have a teenage son, who has a passion for salmon angling and fly tying.

Jill plans and manages ASF’s Annual New York Dinner & Auction, as well as other miscellaneous U.S. cultivation events, works with US Board relations, and assists the VP of Development with annual giving and other development tasks, as needed.

Jill spearheaded the New York development effort that has more than tripled annual revenue during her tenure with ASF. She managed ASF’s 50^th Anniversary Annual New York Dinner & Auction at the Museum of Natural History during her first year with ASF in 1998. The dinner is now held at Cipriani 42^nd street.

In addition to her work, Jill is interested in food and wine, Broadway, dance, travel and spending time with her husband, family and friends.

A graduate of Barnard College (BC), Columbia University, she is a Barnard College Student Mentor and was Chairman of the College Reunion from 1995-98, advising on all aspects of this annual, three-day event.

Jill Alcott Baskin owns and operates Alcott & Partners, Inc., a ten-year-old fundraising consulting, marketing and events firm. Prior to launching her own business, she spent eight years in conservation fundraising for the Wildlife Conservation Society, first at the Central Park and then at the Bronx Zoo in New York.

Kirsten became ASF's Development Officer in 2000. After receiving her BA, she spent 14 interesting years with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, where she was one of the first Hotel Champions of the Fairmont Environmental Program.

Raising funds for ASF's programs and assisting in membership development keep Kirsten busy. She helps plan and manage Special Events, including ASF's annual dinners that are held in the Maritime provinces, Quebec, Ontario, Maine, Boston, Chicago, and New York.

Carolyn began working at ASF on a part-time basis in 1991. Before long she became a permanent, full-time employee.

Carolyn is kept extremely busy with her membership responsibilities, which include helping to attract new members, developing and maintaining membership lists, handling requests for address changes, renewals, tax receipts, and more. She also helps with fundraising programs.

In her time away from work, Carolyn is active in church and youth activities, and enjoys cooking and entertaining

She and her husband, Perry, have two daughters, Katie and Kelsie.

Marlene started with ASF in 1991 after graduating from the NB Community College in St. Andrews. As a member of the Membership and Development team, Marlene assists with planning and managing ASF's Special Events, such as fundraising dinners, auctions and the annual raffle. She also works on various aspects of membership development.

Marlene enjoys golfing, traveling south (unless it's following the Rolling Stones), kayaking, and gardening.

She and her husband, Kenny, also manage four apartment units and are kept busy with their children's sports and other activities. Marlene's daughters are Nicole and Hillary, and her step-children are Garrett and Alicia.

Anita studied nursing at the University of New Brunswick before deciding she preferred working with numbers.

After taking a business course, she began working at ASF in March of 1991 as an assistant to Dr. John Anderson, ASF’s then VP of Research. That was followed by a transfer to the finance department, where she has been for the better part of 16 years now.

Anita is currently completing her BBA on a part-time basis at the Saint John campus of the University of New Brunswick. Originally from Campobello Island, she now resides with her husband, Mike, in St. Andrews.

Mary first arrived at ASF with her "we can do that" attitude in 1992 and has remained a positive force ever since, which is great, especially when dealing with issues related to human resources.

Prior to joining the ASF team, Mary managed one of St. Andrews most successful shops.

Mary graduated from Blacks Harbour High School in 1971 and from the New Brunswick Community College in 1992 with an Administrative Assistant certificate.

A strong supporter of her community, Mary, over the years, has served as a Town Councilor and Deputy Mayor of St. Andrews. She has also been a driving force in ensuring that the town's Canada Day festivities are memorable, by raising the funds needed for the fireworks show. Mary is currently serving as Vice-Chair of the Fundy Community Foundation and doing the accounting for the Churches of St. Andrew and St. Clements.

When she can find the time, Mary enjoys tennis, volley ball, kayaking, playing the fiddle, gardening, and spending time with her husband, Keith, and their two children and four grandcchildren.

Harlon (Hardy) Frost has been with ASF since 1989.

Hardy is dependable, loyal and always comes through when needed.

Hardy's carpentry skills are in demand both at work and at home. In his free time, he likes to hunt, fish, and generally just enjoy nature.

He and his wife, Lisa, have one son Harlon (Hardy) Frost Jr.

Andrew Goode began working for the Atlantic Salmon Federation in 1999 and in 2002, became Vice President of US Programs. Much of Andrew's work is focused in Maine where native salmon ppulations still cling to rivers like the Penobscot, Kennebec, Machias, Denny's and Naraguagus.

He led ASF's fight on the Endangered Speiceis listing of eight salmon rivers and has helped shape aquaculture reforms in the State of Maine. Currently, his principle focus is restoring Maine's Penobscot River, where an innovative agreement may represent the last, best chance to save wild Atlantic salmon in the US. Prior to ASF, Andy was the Conservation Director for the Orvis Company and earlier worked for the Nature Consevancey in North Carolina and the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Andrew holds a Master's degree in ecology from Duke University's School of Forestry and Environmantal Studies and a BA from Colby College.

Charles joined the staff of ASF in January of 2000. Prior to joining ASF, Charles lived in Aylmer, Quebec, across the river from Ottawa.

An avid conservationist and fly fisherman, Charles was introduced to wild Atlantic salmon in 1990 on the Moisie River, which was a life-changing experience and is in large part the reason why he is dedicated to the conservation of our salmon.

His involvement with ASF began in 1997. Along with a dedicated group of volunteers from Quebec and Ontario, he was directly involved with the creation of the “Fall Run Dinner” that is held annually in the Ottawa area. Charles is a member of the board of directors of ASF’s Regional Council in Quebec, FQSA (Fédération Québécoise pour le saumon atlantique) and works very closely with the council to promote conservation initiatives.

Charles and his wife Eedie reside in Pointe Claire, Quebec.

Lewis has been with ASF since 1992. He began work as ASF's Partners in Conservation Coordinator under the Education and Public Awareness Program (EPAP), developing conservation programs between Native and non-Native groups throughout Atlantic Canada. When the EPAP program ended, Lewis became ASF's Regional Director for Nova Scotia.

A graduate of Dalhousie University, Lewis has been working to conserve fish populations for more than 20 years. He ran the Nova Scotia Adopt-a-Stream program for the first two years the program existed and helped prepare the first Adopt-a-Stream manual. He was the project biologist for the Cumberland County River Enhancement Association, working on river restoration and enhancement projects in Cumberland and Colchester Counties, prior to joining ASF. As ASF's Regional Director, he was directly involved in initiating the West River liming project to counter the impacts of acid rain on this river, a first of its kind in North America. Lewis is also a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor.

When not working on salmon conservation activities, Lewis includes fishing, camping, golf, sea kayaking and cycling among his favourite activities. Lewis lives in Chester with his wife, Valerie, son, Ian, and two golden retreivers, Bhreagh and Molly.

Don was born in 1960 in the community of Meadows, located in the Bay of Islands, near the city of Corner Brook, NL. After graduating from Templeton Collegiate High School in the adjacent community of Gillams, Don attended Memorial University of Newfoundland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in biology in 1985.

In 1992, Don accepted the position of Regional Coordinator with ASF for Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1993, he was promoted to Regional Director for this region.

Don has received several awards for his dedication and commitment to protecting salmon and trout stocks in Newfoundland and Labrador, including the Guenther Behr Award, presented by the Salmonid Associtaion of Eastern Newfoundland (SAEN) and the SPAWN Hall of Fame Award from the Salmonid Preservation Association for the Waters of Newfoundland and Labrador (SPAWN).

Don currrently resides in the community of Irishtown, also in the Bay of Islands, with his wife Maureen and their two daughters, Nicole and Erin.

Fred was born and raised in Massachusetts. He graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1976 and went to work for Woods Hole Oceanography Institution (WHOI) in Woods Hole, MA. After spending one year on an aquaculture project, he became Manager of WHOI's Matamek Research Station in Sept Iles, Quebec. Fred then undertookPh.D. studies at l'Université Laval in Quebec City and graduated in 1984. He followed this with a NATO postdoctoral fellowship at the University College of Wales in Aberystwyth, UK. In January, 1986, he was hired as an Assistant Professor at McGill University and promoted to Associate Professor in 1992. He joined ASF full-time in 1995 as its Natural Resource Scientist, and became V.P. Research and Environment in 1996. Fred's research interests are in fish biology and ecology, and the impacts of exotic species on native ecosystems. He is author or co-author of more than 60 papers in refereed journals, as well as many technical reports and editor of two books. He has also been heavily involved in public policy issues, especially in regard to environmental impact assessments and has worked extensively in public education. Fred served on the Board of AquaNet (Canada's National Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture) and Chairs the Board of the Huntsman Marine Science Cenrte. He is a frequent public speaker.

Much of Jonathan's research continues to involve interactions between wild and aquaculture salmon. particularly on the Magaguadavic River, located in southwestern New Brunswick. Some of his other projects include fish passage issues, exotic species, sonic telemetry, fish stock assessment and restoration programs.

Jonathan is also responsible for responding to environmental interventions as they arise (i.e. assisting other organizations in the field), public speaking (i.e. presentations at conferences/grass root meetings), proposal submission for grants, and training and supervision of field technicians and students.

Steve conducts field research on Atlantic salmon in New Brunswick and Quebec, particularly sonic tracking on presmolt, precocious parr and smolt.

An occasional watercolour artist, scientific illustrator, children's illustrator, and cartoonist, Steve also enjoys wood carving and furniture making. He has also been a frequent contributor of cartoons to the Kid’s Page of the Atlantic Salmon Journal.

Steve lives in St. Andrews with his dog, Lacey.

Ellen keeps the Research and Enviornment Department running smoothly, which is a big challenge, especially during the field season when the other team members are working in remote areas that are difficult to reach.

Ellen also helps with field work when required.

Ellen started with ASF in 1984 and prior to her appointment to the reseearch department, she was the Executive Assistant in the President's Office.

When not at the office, Ellen can be found exercising, reading, gardening, or spending time with her husband, Woody.

John Anderson, now retired, has led a distinguished career. In addition to being a former Vice-President of Operations for the Atlantic Salmon Federation, he has been director of the Federal Marine Biological Station in St. Andrews, NB, Director General for Research of the Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans, and President of the University of New Brunswick at various times during his working life. He is founder and former chairman of the Huntsman Marine Science Centre. He maintains a strong interest in many Atlantic salmon issues, including relationships with First Nations education efforts.

John lives in St. Andrews.
