On June 4, Mowi submitted its environmental impact statement (EIS) for the company’s planned hatchery and sea-cage expansion in Newfoundland and Labrador. The company wants to add 2.2 million more farmed salmon to its 53 sea-cage leases along the south coast of Newfoundland.
After comments close on July 24th, Newfoundland’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change will decide if the project can proceed. Comments matter and the minister must take public concern into account.
ASF is reviewing the EIS document, which is over 1,100 pages. We will update this page during our review and post our comments once their submitted.
Please help protect one of the most productive marine ecosystems in Atlantic Canada, Newoundland’s South Coast Fjords, from unnecessary salmon farm expansion. Send an email to EAProjectComments@gov.nl.ca or use the form below to submit comments. The pre-written text can be changed and edited.
