DFO Releases 2019 Interim Salmon Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador

Mar 7, 2019
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has released its interim Atlantic salmon management plan for this year, which maintains last year’s limits on catch-and-release.

The seasons for this year’s recreational salmon fishery remain the same as in previous years. In Newfoundland, rivers will be open from June 1st to September 7. In Labrador, all rivers will be open from June 15 to September 15.

Same as last year, there will be a catch-and-release limit of three salmon on all rivers across the province. There will also be a maximum retention limit of one salmon on all rivers. However, DFO says some areas may see a higher limit depending on the Science Regional Advisory Process.

DFO says the complete plan will be announced ahead of the season’s opening dates.
