Salmon salvation

Hats off to Bill Taylor and the Atlantic Salmon Federation (proud to be a member for 30-plus years) and the late Icelandic visionary Orri Vigfusson and his North Atlantic Salmon Fund for negotiating a major new commercial net fishery buyout in Greenland, where most of our salmon go to feed and mature.

This is a huge conservation victory for beleaguered populations of wild Atlantic salmon in North America and Europe. It means many thousands more mature Atlantic salmon will make it back to their home rivers to spawn — including here in Nova Scotia — sowing the seeds for recovery. This is the best news for wild Atlantic salmon in over a decade and a major accomplishment for everyone involved. Well done, and keep up the great work!
