Skretting wins Atlantic Sapphire feed contract

Nov 26, 2019
SKRETTING has won the contract to supply the world’s biggest land based salmon farmer, Atlantic Sapphire, with the majority of its feed supply.

The contract, beginning this month, covers most of Atlantic Sapphire’s feed requirements at its facilities in Denmark and in the US, Skretting announced today.

Johan Andreassen, CEO of Atlantic Sapphire, said: ‘Skretting has demonstrated a strong R&D foundation, and that was a key decision making factor for us.

‘We are excited to work in partnership to develop a salmon feed optimised for our Bluehouse technology.’

Skretting has implemented global RAS quality standards for a new range of feed products – collectively called RCX – dedicated for production in recirculating aquaculture systems.

The range will be utilised to minimise the risk to water quality and filter loading of Atlantic Sapphire’s large-scale grow out units, said Skretting.

The company’s Aquaculture Research Centre (ARC), based in Stavanger, Norway, has RAS trial facilities around the world.

Skretting launched the first global RAS feed in 2009, and holds two proprietary solutions crucial to optimising feed for RAS.

‘We are committed to providing Atlantic Sapphire with the very best, and this commitment extends beyond delivering optimised feed,’ said Evy Vikene, Skretting commercial director.

‘Through Skretting’s RecircReady concept, Atlantic Sapphire will receive access to unrivalled support and service covering feed quality, monitoring, feeding, and technical expertise for optimal success and RAS feed efficiency.’

Atlantic Sapphire’s innovation centre is in Langsand, Denmark, where it produces around 2,900 tonnes of Atlantic salmon a year, sold in several markets.

The company is well underway with the construction of the first phase of its Bluehouse facility in Homestead, near Miami, Florida, which is projected to produce approximately 10,000 tonnes of salmon a year from Q3 2020.
