Overview
The Communications Officer supports ASF’s communications efforts through content creation, social media management, website support, and digital communications coordination. This role helps increase public awareness, grow our audience, strengthen audience engagement, and ensure consistent and effective communication across platforms. By assisting with day-to-day communications activities, this role will allow the Communications team to operate more efficiently.
Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Assist with the planning, creation, scheduling, and monitoring of social media content across platforms
- Monitor social media engagement and help respond to comments and messages as appropriate
- Draft and edit content including blog posts, website copy, newsletters, and email campaigns
- Create graphic assets and digital content
- Update and maintain website content
- Support communications for events, campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and organizational activities
- Assist with photo and video collection, organization, and editing
- Track and report on communications metrics and analytics
- Assist with administrative and coordination tasks related to communications projects and campaigns
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Digital Literacy & Content Aptitude – Strong understanding of digital platforms, content creation principles, and how to effectively engage audiences across social, web, and email channels, with awareness of SEO and marketing best practices.
- Communication & Content Quality: Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to produce clear, accurate, and on-brand content.
- Creative Thinking & Visual Communication: Applies creativity and design awareness to develop engaging visual and written materials that align with brand standards and audience needs.
- Organizational Awareness: Understands and navigates internal structures, relationships, and external partnerships to achieve shared goals.
- Self-motivated: Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Values Diversity: Recognizes and respects diverse perspectives and cultures, fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment.
- Technical Skills: Excellent computer literacy and comfort using Microsoft suite. Graphic design skills considered an asset.
Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Education: Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, digital media, or related field
- Experience: 1-3 years preferred, willing to train the right candidate.
Compensation
ASF offers a competitive salary and benefits package including RRSP contributions, vacation pay, sick leave, and health/dental insurance. The salary range for the position is $56,000 – 84,000. Starting salary will be determined based on qualifications of the successful candidate.
