A Riffle may seem small, but it is essential for a river to survive.

A shallow body of fast moving water, a riffle can be a tiny wave or a bubbling rapid. Day after day, it adds oxygen to the water allowing the tiny invertebrates that feed young fish to grow here. The gravel bottom is a nursery for the next generation of wild Atlantic Salmon.
