Announcement– ASF leadership

March 17, 2025

ASF will be launching a new search for President and CEO following news that Louie Porta will step down on March 27th to join the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. When Louie leaves, Chief Operating Officer Robert Otto will become interim President and CEO.

Porta was selected by ASF’s U.S. and Canadian boards of directors in May 2024, following a thorough competition. His record of success establishing protected areas, extensive contacts, and entrepreneurial approach to conservation contributed to the decision.

Louie worked closely with the ASF team to secure substantial new support, expand our programs, and empower staff. At the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, he will direct the largest investment in northern conservation ever made.

He will remain connected to ASF as a volunteer director and long-term supporter of our mission to conserve and restore wild salmon and wild rivers throughout the North Atlantic.

Staff and directors of the organization are committed to a smooth transition. All our existing programs and projects will continue uninterrupted. We thank Louie for his energy and effort and welcome him as a volunteer director.
