Job Ad – Engagement Coordinator (full time, temporary)

Location: East Coast Newfoundland, St John’s

Preferred start date: August 2025

The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) is an international conservation organization founded in 1948 to conserve and restore wild Atlantic salmon and their ecosystems. ASF is headquartered in St. Andrews, NB, Canada and maintains offices in Brunswick Maine, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. Through ASF’s membership and affiliated volunteer network, the organization represents more than 25,000 individuals who share ASF’s commitment to wild rivers and wild salmon.

Overview

To represent ASF at community events to assist us in educating the public on ASF activities and promoting advocacy in Newfoundland and Labrador. The primary role is to convey our position with Salmon aquaculture by leveraging the Rock Plastic Salmon documentary and promotional materials to support. Additionally, educating on the work /programs we do with areas such as Wild Salmon Watersheds, headwaters program and science activities like the tracking program and the genetic resolve planned for the Southern coast of Newfoundland.

Responsibilities and Duties

In this role, your responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Represent ASF at festivals and special events for 2025
  • Establish a list of events for ASF to attend
  • Book and coordinate event details with the community leader and ensure materials and booth are ready
  • Educating attendees on the impact of open net-pen salmon farms
  • Provide a weekly report each Monday, event outcomes and opportunities
  • Recommending adjustment to booth and handouts
  • Working with other ASF staff members, identifying opportunities for further education
  • Minimum of 35 hours with high level of flexibility with work arrangement due to nature of the role

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Professionalism is a must as this role will be representative of the organization on key outreach initiatives. This role requires a high degree of communication and interpersonal skills as public engagement is a key component of this role.

 

Job specific experience and skills that will help you in this role include:

  • Be familiar with salmon aquaculture impacts and related elements such as documentary “Rock Plastic Salmon”
  • Able to communicate salmon conservation activities, plans and initiatives so that public can understand.
  • Listening to concerns expressed, empathizing and capturing these to bring back to ASF team weekly.
  • Meet commitments of the event. Timely, Set up location, etc

 

Education and Experience: Partial or completed post-secondary education in conservation, nature and/or marine environment. However, we understand that competence and skill can come from a diversity of experiences as well as education. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. We encourage applications from new graduates.

Compensation: Pay Band 3, $30/hour paid bi-weekly.
