ASF names new President

July 11, 2025

Nathan Wilbur assumes leadership of the Atlantic Salmon Federation on July 11

ST. ANDREWS, NB – After an executive search that attracted candidates from across North America, ASF’s Canadian and U.S. Boards of Directors have selected Nathan Wilbur to lead the organization as its next President.

Wilbur joined ASF in 2015 as the New Brunswick Program Director, rising to become Vice President of Regional Programs, overseeing ASF’s conservation programs, advocacy, and partnerships throughout Quebec and Atlantic Canada. He is a Professional Engineer with extensive Atlantic salmon conservation experience, both from his time at ASF and early career work on river restoration and cold-water habitat enhancement.

“Nathan has earned the confidence of ASF’s boards of directors thanks to his consistent record of achievement over ten-years of working for the organization,” said Brian Porter, Chair of ASF Canada.

“It’s also important to recognize Robert Otto, who became interim President and CEO in March 2025, helping to consolidate recent gains and maintaining the organization’s growth trajectory,” said Eric Roberts, Chair of ASF U.S.

Wilbur is a native of Hampton, New Brunswick and currently lives in Fredericton with his wife and daughter. He is a lifelong angler, hunter, and conservationist who is committed to evidence-based, ambitious solutions to improve the health and resilience of wild Atlantic salmon and its environment. Wilbur brings a strong focus on uniting and energizing ASF’s grassroots federation while expanding Indigenous, government, national, and international partnerships.

“Atlantic salmon have been a guiding force and inspiration throughout my life,” said Wilbur. “These remarkable fish tie people together across communities and borders to drive conservation action along their migration from home rivers to Greenland. Wild salmon need our help more urgently than ever, and I’m honoured and humbled to take on this challenge with our dedicated team of directors, staff, supporters, and partners—advancing ASF as a force for good.”
